User Definition

During this stage we work with you to identify your user communities and their characteristics and the domain knowledge that they bring to your product. This stage is supported by user interviews to provide indepth understanding of who they are and what they want. This also includes understanding the user environment and the system domain.

Task Analysis

The aim of this stage is to understand the users' goals and tasks, how they go about performing these tasks and any tools they currently use. Addiationally, problems they face and solutions they would like to see are also important. User observation is vital at this stage as this can provide insights into how users actually work.

UI Design

This stage starts with the user and system requirements and ends with a fully realized design. Between these two points are phases of iterative prototyping where ideas are tested with users or explored with techniques such as card-sorting. These prototyping stages can be quite rapid but it is key to try and involve users at any evaluation stage. Dewoollery can provide additional assistance in converting from design into a fully accessible web application.

Evaluation and Validation

This stage aims to assess if the interface developed actually meets the criteria outlined in the initial stages. Does it do what the users want? More importantly does it allow the users to do this efficiently, effectively and leave them with a warm satisfied feeling. Observing the users working through identified tasks with the newly developed interface is the most widely used technique employed at this stage. It is also possible to perform heuristic evaluations according to a specified set of criteria.
